Heart Wood: Dulux Colour of the Year 2018

This is the 15th year of Colour Futures, Dulux’s colour trends research division. Every year, Dulux identifies a hero paint colour they predict will lead the following year in interior design. So, what’s new for 2018?

“This year’s colour is Heart Wood, a beautiful warm pink chosen by the colour specialists at Dulux Global Aesthetic Centre.”

This neutral hue has been selected by a panel of experts from around the world across a range of industries including architecture and technology. Jane Pople for Amara says, “Dulux’s team of experts have scoured the globe to discover these emerging trends and insights. They have cited the leading mood for 2018 as one of unpredictability and uncertainty. As life gets faster, the need for our homes to be a place of sanctuary and tranquillity grows, and the need for it to be a space where we can all look forward to spending our time. This has led to the theme A Welcome Home, which encapsulates Dulux’s 2018 Colour of the Year and the subsequent trends that will influence interiors for the coming year.”

Dulux have described Heart Wood as a ‘beautiful warm pink’ and House Beautiful Magazine defined it as, “Sitting between a smoky taupe and dusky mauve. Heart Wood is described as a ‘warm neutral, with a hint of heather,’ and comes at a time when homeowners yearn to transform their homes into true sanctuaries.”

To better explain the colour trend (and as a photo speaks a thousand words), here are some of the images Dulux have issued to represent their vision…

So, what do you think of Heart Wood?
