    Spotlight: The Pink Room NZ

I often come across new designers, bloggers/influencers and other inspirational people when I’m working in PR on our homewares & interiors clients. This week, I came across Evie Kemp & Michelle Matangi, interiors podcasters from New Zealand and their home photography gave me a new level of interior-envy. They describe themselves as, “Two interiors enthusiasts from New Zealand with a shared love of the eclectic, bold, maximalist, luxe, and unique.” They blog at www.thepinkroomnz.com, and host a regular interiors podcast too.

The Pink Room is the name of the project between the pair, they explain “We’re both passionate about interior style, finding your voice and being unafraid to design it your own way! We are both obsessed with colour, glam, thrifting, plants, art & the unique. We want to inspire you to create cool spaces you love!”

    Michelle Matangi

“Michelle has been running her own successful clothing alterations and repairs business Dollface Designs Ltd.  While she spends her days sewing, at night Michelle is always creating something.   Her eye for design has evolved over the years, since buying her first home she’s been renovating every chance she can get and along the way learning to be savvy about it!

Michelle lives in New Plymouth with her husband Michael and dog Pepper.  She also can be found thrifting any chance she can get and over-sharing on Instagram.”

    Evie Kemp

“Evie began her career designing prints and homewares. Her artworks can be found in thousands of homes worldwide and have been featured in numerous magazines. Over the years, Evie has increasingly showcased her passion for applying unique and bold design to all aspects of life, and has recently redirected her business to accommodate this changing focus, making a return to textile design, as well as larger and more exclusive creative projects.

Evie lives in Auckland with her husband Sam, dogs Pebbles and Biggie, and cat Eddie. She can be found scouring op shops for vintage ceramics, and over-sharing on Instagram.”

It's new ep day for #thepinkroompodcast! In episode 5 we were inspired by @swoonworthyblog to talk trend predictions, which of course had to include this lilac moment many of us are having. I've decided I'm definitely gonna have a fling with lilac – even though I know it won't last 😂 (pink for life!) Find the episode on most players, and please consider leaving a review on iTunes to help others find us. We'd also love to know if there's anything you'd like us to cover 💕. Today's plans include little more than this sofa, the pets, some peanut butter on toast, lots of coffee and the tv that never gets to shine on instagram (poor tv, I really do love you). I'll be honest, already obsessed with married at first sight nz but think I might jump on the love island bandwagon today. What have you got planned? Shame me with your culture and lack of slovenliness. 😂💕 #nzhomeswithstyle #theotherkemphouse . . . #currentdesignsituation #jungalowstyle #societyofdesign #homedecor #myboldhues #styleithappy #sassyhomestyle #apartmenttherapy #cornerofmyhome #finditstyleit #mycuratedaesthetic #thisiswhyihavetothriftshopeveryday #midcenturyhome #thisiswhyithriftshopeveryday #interiordecor #leopardprint #vintagefurniture #showmeyourboho #dtipetsonfurniture #vintagehome #pocketofmyhome #myeclecticmix #allthingsmetric #moreismoredecor #howyouhome #thriftshopfinds

Just cringe-watched the live auction final of #theblocknz, kind of seemed like a fitting end to the season but feel genuinely sorry for the participants. Ugh! The whole circus really put me off the major brands sponsoring it at least, so that's a positive? 😂 Anyway, obviously it wasn't providing any inspiration but my dining room plans are starting to form in my head. 💭 I'd like to say my trash tv watching is over but I'll neither confirm or deny whether I'll be watching Married at first sight. 🙈 . . . . #nzhomeswithstyle #theotherkemphouse #allthingsmetric #vintagehome #vintagefurniture #currentdesignsituation #mycuratedaesthetic #moreismoredecor #thisiswhyithriftshopeveryday #pocketofmyhome #finditstyleit #myeclecticmix #cornerofmyhome #midcenturyhome #sassyhomestyle #myboldhues #sodomino #howivintage #luxuryinteriorsonabudget #myhometrend #homeofmyown #myhomevibe #mystylishspace #pinkinteriors #junkanddisorderly

    Ok @momagency, no way am I giving up my millennial pinks but I'm definitely on board for the revolutionary red – currently more 'rust' but on the spectrum! However, if you see me buying back my early 2000's red kitchen accessories I give you permission to throw me back to 2004. 😑 #seeingred . . . #currentdesignsituation #jungalowstyle #societyofdesign #homedecor #myboldhues #styleithappy #sassyhomestyle #apartmenttherapy #cornerofmyhome #finditstyleit #mycuratedaesthetic #thisiswhyihavetothriftshopeveryday #midcenturyhome #thisiswhyithriftshopeveryday #interiordecor #leopardprint #vintagefurniture #hollywoodregency #showmeyourboho #vintagehome #pocketofmyhome #myeclecticmix #allthingsmetric #moreismoredecor #howyouhome #thriftshopfinds

A nighttime step through the front door, I love how cozy the pink becomes! There's a blog post up with @michellematangi and I's list of go-to places to find affordable art 👌 – these aren't individual artists (that will take many, many more posts) but where we head for curated or multi-artist collections of art, especially prints! I've popped the link in my profile if you'd like a read! . . . . . I learnt a very important lesson on paint in the weekend! I spent Friday night and Saturday morning prepping and painting our new skirting boards in the living room which was a massive job but so pleased it’s finally done! I had to touch up the bottom part of the wall where the skirting meets the wall and I bought some new paint in the same colour as I had run out of the first paint I used! Anyway the first colour I used in here was made by a company that colour matched it and I was happy with it as I knew no different, but this time I bought the paint from the actual company who created this colour and no doubt it’s their paint formula that makes the colour much brighter which I’m absolutely stoked with as now the walls don’t feel as flat as they were but boy I didn’t need to repaint these walls to add to my huge list of things to do 🤦‍♀️ So the moral of the story is if you are going to do touch ups make sure it’s from the same tin of paint as you used to paint the room! The colour used is “Just Right” by @resenecolour and I used their spacecote flat, that’s also an exact match for Farrow and Ball “Pink Ground for my international peeps x . . . . . #thepinkroomthrifts #NZhomeswithstyle #eclecticinterior #eclectic #interiordecorating #interiors #instahome #homedecor #fearlesshome #interiorstyling #finditstyleit #moreismoredecor #realhomes #styling #interiors #interiordecor #interior #interiordetails #vintage #myhomevibe #interiorinspo #livingroom #cornerofmyhome #pocketofmyhome #sharemystyle #colourmyhome #mycuratedaesthetic #thisiswhyithiftshopeveryday

    As a constant rejigger I'm always itching to change things up! But I must say that after 2 months of my hallway being "finished" (I say that term loosely because we all know nothing is ever really finished) I'm really loving this space and the feeling I get when I walk in the door ✨ Also today I'm featured on the @unpatronizing blog about artwork 🖤. . . . . #hallwaydecor #art #gallerywall #societyofdesign #eclectic #interiordecorating #interiors #instahome #homedecor #fearlesshome #interiorstyling #apartmenttherapy #finditstyleit #moreismoredecor #realhomes #styling #interiors #interiordecor #interior #interiordetails #gallerywallhashtag #interiorinspo #hallwaydecor #cornerofmyhome #pocketofmyhome #sharemystyle #sassyhomestyle #currentdesignsituation #mycuratedaesthetic #colourmyhome

Wow ok so I was so blown away by the reaction to my last hallway gallery wall picture I posted! Thank you for all the comments 👏 Now I know this is just of a different angle but the same space but I just wanted to share why I love sharing these little pockets of my home! This little area in my hallway makes me feel SO happy and content ☺️ It's also the entrance to my home so I think it's super important to reflect the rest of the house when you first walk in! It's actually so simple but it's also pretty effective! I'm no pro but to my eye it's the mix of pattern and reigned in colour palette that does it! When I walk in the door to this I feel instantly relaxed! That's why I'm so obsessed with interiors, not to make it all perfect and "showy" but to tell a little story about me! You don't need a giant budget (although that would be nice obvs) but it's the mix of the things you've collected overtime that make you feel that nostalgia every time you come home 💛. . . . . #hallwaydecor #gallerywall #societyofdesign #eclectic #interiordecorating #interiors #instahome #homedecor #fearlesshome #interiorstyling #apartmenttherapy #finditstyleit #moreismoredecor #realhomes #styling #interiors #interiordecor #interior #interiordetails #gallerywallhashtag #interiorinspo #hallwaydecor #cornerofmyhome #pocketofmyhome #sharemystyle #sassyhomestyle #currentdesignsituation #mycuratedaesthetic #colourmyhome #NZhomeswithstyle
